Certiora was founded in 2016 to help executives make more effective decisions under uncertainty

Founder and CEO, Nirmal Hasan, is a seasoned Supply Chain/Operations professional with over 27 years of experience in industry and management consulting

Nirmal developed a curiosity about uncertainty and its impacts as a young boy, watching his father’s small electromechanical sub-assembly manufacturing business in India grapple with demand and supply challenges.

That curiosity eventually led him to pursue a doctorate in the field of Industrial Engineering/Operations Research at Northwestern University, where his research focused on developing techniques for production planning under uncertainty. During this time, perhaps as a foreshadowing of things to come, two of his class projects were merged to create a pedagogical tool for graduate students to understand and experiment with various production planning and inventory control policies.

At Conexant Systems, Nirmal implemented multiple Advance Planning and Scheduling (APS) solutions for a fast-paced, dynamic and complex business as part of the Supply Chain organization. Following a brief stint in IT, he was tapped by the Operations organization to optimize supply chain planning processes, and eventually to lead the planning team on an interim basis. His experiences during this time gave Nirmal deep insights about the technological and equally importantly, the human elements of enabling supply chain decisions.

First at PRTM, then at PwC after it acquired PRTM, Nirmal’s management consulting career focused on helping senior executives define and implement supply chain/operations strategies, enhance and scale planning and execution capabilities, and manage large-scale transformation initiatives across global supply chains. His experiences during this time gave him a deeper appreciation of the challenges faced by executives forced to make decisions of consequence with incomplete and imperfect information, ultimately leading him to focus on delivering Operational Decision Intelligence to executives.
